A multifaceted neighborhood, Potrero Hill integrates many of San Francisco’s distinct aesthetics into one happy whole. On the northern, city side, the Design District’s funky artist-inhabited streets slope up to the 18th Street retail area. Here’s where you’ll find most of Potrero’s restaurants, bars, clubs, and shops. Then, as one continues up the hill, the views improve and streets run residential up to the Recreation Center at the top. On a nice day—and Potrero may have San Francisco’s sunniest weather—you can practically see the whole city from here.
Potrero is flanked by the bustling Mission and Potrero Gulch to the west and the up-and-coming Dogpatch to the east, but the 101 and 280 freeways help keep those separate while still within easy reach. Should you need a hospital, Zuckerberg San Francisco General, UCSF Medical Center, and UCSD Benioff Children’s Hospital are all mere blocks away.
